PRODUCT REVIEWS

The story begins with an outbreak, prompting urgent news coverage that provides the world—and viewers—with a critical update. Live footage reveals that infected individuals have taken over an airport. Despite extensive efforts to contain the outbreak, new cases of infection are continuously emerging across the nation, with symptoms potentially appearing within days or even minutes. This results in individuals transforming into uncontrollable, rage-fuelled beings, posing a significant danger to others. The World Health Organization has declared a global pandemic, signifying that the world we once knew has changed forever. Realising that she is no longer safe at home, a woman and her two children begin to pack their belongings to escape to a safer location. However, as they try to flee, both the mother and her young son are brutally attacked by infected individuals. Fortunately, the little girl is rescued by a mysterious man who confronts the attackers at gunpoint. Since the girl has just lost her family, the man decides to take care of her from that moment on. Ten years have passed since Cassius (Matt Devere) rescued Abigail (Luca Papp). Now a teenager, Abigail remains under Cassius’s care. Together, they are searching for a safe haven as the level of infection continues to rise. Cassius also trains Abigail in self-defence, hunting, and weaponry. Their time together has forged a bond that resembles that of a father and daughter. Both dream of one day settling down as farmers or living near a beach. "Silent Zone" is a drama, thriller, and horror film that presents a chilling threat from infected individuals reminiscent of zombies. These characters possess tremendous strength and can move stealthily. If you enjoy TV shows like "The Walking Dead" and "The Last of Us," you're likely to find "Silent Zone" highly entertaining. Interestingly, the film's quality and various plot developments suggest it could be an excellent pilot for a new TV series. "Silent Zone" is the directorial debut of Peter Deak, who also produced the film. It features the screen debut of actress Luca Papp, who portrays the character, Abigail. The film is adapted from the best-selling novel "Welcome to the Silent Zone" by Viktor Csák. Overall, Silent Zone is an enjoyable thriller and horror film, especially for fans of The Walking Dead or The Last of Us. I appreciate the immersive world created in this story, allowing viewers to understand the aftermath of an outbreak as the narrative unfolds. Interestingly, the film has a television series feel, featuring various obstacles and plot twists. I also admired the level of gruesomeness; it doesn’t shy away from depicting violence and death, and the CGI used to portray the infected is impressive. While I found some aspects predictable and the pacing slow, the suspense kept me eager to see how everything would unfold. Considering this is Peter Deak’s directorial debut, it is an outstanding achievement. I hope he returns to this genre as his career progresses. * This review has been written for Sanity.
