After early spells as a rock 'n' roll pianist and a Joe Meek protégé, north Londoner Miki Dallon turned to songwriting, recording some demos with old friend and Outlaws bassist Chas Hodges that attracted the attention of the publishing company Millwick. With Millwick branching out into record production with their own Strike and Go labels, Miki went on to work in a number of disciplines including solo singer, musician, songwriter, talent spotter and producer. He penned hits for The Sorrows ('Take A Heart') and Neil Christian ('That's Nice') and released a quartet of solo singles before forming his own record company, Young Blood, after the collapse of Millwick's empire. This 2CD set, 'Cheat And Lie' anthologises Miki's impressive and eclectic body of work throughout the Sixties, stretching from those early home demos with Chas Hodges through to his work later in the decade with the likes of Don Fardon (including Top Three hit 'Indian Reservation') and British R&B pioneer Jimmy Powell. Featuring hit singles, cult 45s, songwriter demos and a number of recordings that are now making their first appearance on CD, 'Cheat And Lie' is a fascinating overview of one of British 60s pop's most accomplished jack of all trades.
