It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers' passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mile Miglia.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Enzo Ferrari, a former racing car driver and current owner of a well-known Italian car company, is facing financial trouble due to poor sales. His wife, Laura, works with him as a business partner. In an effort to save the business, Enzo decides to participate in and win the Mille Miglia race in Italy, which is scheduled to take place in 1957. Enzo faces several challenges and extreme pressure while trying to win the Mille Miglia. Firstly, his preferred driver meets with a terrible accident and dies at the scene. Enzo and his wife are still grieving the loss of their only son, while also searching for a replacement driver. In addition, Enzo has been having an affair with another woman and has a secret son who may one day inherit Ferrari. Although Enzo is focused on winning the race for the sake of his company, the dark secrets from his life are gradually being exposed. Ferrari is a movie that mainly focuses on drama rather than action. The director, Michael Mann, is famous for his works like Heat and The Last of the Mohicans. If you are looking for a car racing movie full of action, then you might not find Ferrari satisfying. Although the film features some scenes of fast cars and racing, it is mostly a drama that revolves around Enzo Ferrari's life. I was impressed and surprised by Adam Driver's excellent performance in the movie, including his Italian accent. Enzo, his character, is highly focused and mostly calm, but often selfish. He is willing to do anything to win in all areas. Penélope Cruz's portrayal of Laura is also noteworthy, particularly in the moments where her character is frustrated and emotional on-screen. In fact, I would go as far as to say that she sometimes delivers a more remarkable performance than Driver in selected scenes. Overall, if you're expecting another big action film from director Michael Mann, you might be disappointed. Instead, the director focuses on retelling stories from critical moments in Enzo Ferrari's life. I was previously unaware of these moments in time, but I found it fascinating to discover the story on the big screen, despite the slow pacing. Adam Driver's portrayal of Enzo is terrific, and Penélope Cruz shines even brighter as Enzo's wife, Laura. The racing scenes are exciting, and the sound design is also impressive. The costume work is excellent, but the soundtrack can feel off-beat and unfitting at times. Ultimately, opinions will differ on this determined man's journey to win in all areas of his life, regardless of the cost. * This review has been written for Sanity.
