PRODUCT REVIEWS

The film opens with an introduction to many characters, including Xochitl (Ariela Barer), Logan (Lukas Gage), Alisha (Jayme Lawson), Michael (Forrest Goodluck) and more. Each character is linked to the others by one significant connection: they are a small team of activists and are passionate about all things environmental. As we are introduced to each character, we see them in action before we are all taken to West Texas, where the group secretly meets up. For some of the crew, this is the first time they’ve ever met each other. Together, they discuss a dangerous plan and mission. Their goal is to disrupt and damage an oil pipeline. The crew begin to each do their part by digging and creating what appears to be explosives. Along with seeing the crew at work in the present day, we are also taken on a journey back in time, starting with Xochitl. These flashbacks provide significant insight into what led the characters to want to take things to the next level and sabotage a large pipeline. How to Blow Up a Pipeline is best described as a drama and thriller. This film is also based on the book of the same title by Andreas Malm. The drama aspect of this film is strong. Each character is passionate about making a large change, proving their point and saving the planet, so much so they are willing to risk their own lives. The film also has a strong level of unpredictability. Can all the members of the crew be trusted? Will each of them complete the task and succeed? Overall, I can’t say I’ve seen a film like this in some time. The film prompts audiences to consider and think. It’s also an experience that will linger in the minds of movie buffs for a long period. Everything here feels raw and realistic, with a compelling story and characters. How to Blow Up a Pipeline is an unpredictable, gripping drama with solid moments of tension and thrills throughout. * This review has been written for Sanity.
