The Pearl Sisters, who entered Japan under a different team name

The photo of the two women in stylish outfits adorning the album cover is very familiar. However, the team name marked as 'Jun and Sook' rather than the name we know will be unfamiliar for some reason. The Pearl Sisters, who conquered the music industry by becoming the first Korean girl group to become the singer king within a year of their debut, attempted to enter Japan in 1972. Locally, with the mindset of a fresh start, they started their activities under a different team name, 'Jun and Sook', not the Pearl Sisters they used in Korea.
The musical limitations of this album produced by King Park's planning are clear. This is because it is a simple best album made by collecting previously released hit songs, not new songs released locally, with the popularity of the Pearl Sisters, which has been a hot topic since entering Japan. However, it is attractive that it is an album that covers the hit songs released during Shin Shin-Hyun Division's days, and the hits of the Pearl Sisters, which were released at the peak of their careers after dominating the mainstream stage and before going abroad.

Fierce domestic and international scout competition

Appearing like a comet in 1968, the Pearl Sisters captured the eyes and ears of the contemporary public by boasting a well-balanced body, beautiful appearance, and excellent singing skills. She made a special appearance alongside popular contemporary singers in 'Singing Fair', a national music film directed by Park Chan, which was released in March 1969. She subsequently gained national popularity with her national tour, starting with her first duet recital at the Seoul Civic Center. A fierce competition broke out between King Records, which belatedly produced albums without signing an exclusive contract, and major record labels trying to scout the Pearl sisters. Their income, which was about 5,000 won for transportation expenses during their debut, skyrocketed to 500,000 won when they moved to District Records. In addition, the concert request that was answered from all over the country was to the extent that the schedule was digested by purchasing a Corona passenger car. The Pearl
sisters, who became the focus of attention, were rumored to be dating a Philippine conglomerate known as a show business mogul in Southeast Asia beyond Korea, and rumors of their advance into the United States and Japan began to circulate.

One year after her debut, she became the first singer in the history of a girl group

In December 1969, MBC's teenage singer Cheongbaekjeon was the pinnacle of the Pearl sisters' singing career. Although he has already swept over 10 various awards, including the Korean Culture Awards, becoming the MBC Singer King, which boasts the highest authority, was a surprising event. There was no precedent for a singer who reigned at the top in less than a year after his official debut. The Pearl Sisters, who moved their exclusive company, also changed their musical direction from soul psychedelic to popular songs by mainstream hit composers and penetrated into the broad public. KBS TV's popular music program at the time, the 30-minute special , aired the Pearl Sisters three times as a test. Surprised by the viewership ratings beyond imagination, rival broadcasters MBC and TBC fought a scout war between the Pearl sisters. Exclusive contracts with huge guarantees and conditions were fiercely fought by broadcasting companies. The year after he became the king of singers, offers to appear
in CFs and movies rained down on him.

provided a bridgehead for advancing into Japan

In January 1971, the Pearl Sisters, who made a special appearance in director Kang Dae-chul's 'Tomorrow's Paldo Gangsan Part 3', transferred to Oasis Records again that summer. This time, she melted the hearts of male fans with a sexier image showing sexy hot pants that reveal her thighs. At that time, Yoon Hang-gi's song had a duplicate name with an MBC late-night music program, resulting in a broadcast rejection. Also, rumors of an affair between her older sister Bae In-soon and popular singer Lee Sang-yeol turned the entertainer upside down. The scandal that was heating up with 'Dawn Drive' and 'Beach Date' turned out to be Lee Sang-yeol's unrequited love self-play. Meanwhile, Lee Bong-jo's , the 100th recorded song, was released. This song helped the Pearl Sisters to advance to the finals of the Tokyo International Song Festival, providing a bridgehead for advancing into Japan.

Debuted in the Japanese music industry under the team names of Jun and Sook

In April 1972, he hurried to advance to Japan to avoid several scandals. In the local area, Bae In-sook and Bae In-sook practiced modern ballet and learned a new way of singing from famous Japanese composer Kunihiko Suzuki, dreaming of success in the Japanese music industry. However, since the team name of female groups is very common in Japan, 'Sisters', I made a bold decision to discard the team name 'Pulsisters', which became the king of singers. Following the advice of local music officials, they changed their team name to 'Jun and Sook' and signed a two-year contract with Sony CBS to lay the groundwork for their activities.
'Jun and Sook' made their official debut in Japan by releasing two singles, and , as singles on 7-inch donut plates. Among them, won the silver prize at the 5th Shinjuku Song Festival. Lee Joo-rang, who participated in the same competition, was awarded the award for her effort, and announced the status of Korean singers. The Pearl Sisters, who briefly returned to Korea due to a passport renewal, attracted attention by decorating the cover of Weekly Trends, which celebrated its 4th anniversary. Afterwards, in May 1973, the first solo song released in Japan, , continued its activities by continuously releasing singles while receiving quite a bit of attention from Japanese TV and radio.

This album was released without rumors in Korea on November 20, 1973, when 'Jun and Sook' were active in Japan and attracted attention. Only the team name was written as 'Jun and Sook', but in fact, it is a best album edited from the hit songs released from the debut and before entering Japan. On the first side, there are 6 songs such as , , and , which were released during the Sinjunghyeon Division. Among them, Park In-soo first announced in 1970 as a guest vocalist for the Shin Joong-hyun band Quests, and the Pearl Sisters also announced a little later in the same year. is a hidden track that the Pearl Sisters released through a compilation album in 1971, but did not see much light.
If the first side was composed of Shin Jung-hyun's songs, the second side was filled with works and adaptations of composer Ahn Gil-woong's works released in 1971, although all songs were marked as composer Ahn Gil-woong's original songs. Among them, the adapted song and Ahn Gil-woong are hit songs that have gained considerable popularity. , marked as composed by Ahn Gil-woong, is an adaptation of a pop song. It is also an adapted song, not an original song. However, the work of Ahn Gil-woong is correct.
The Pearl sisters, who struggled desperately in Japan but felt the high wall, tried to advance to Canada, Las Vegas, and New York at the recommendation of the American group Lewis. Folk songs and their own hits attracted quite a bit of attention locally, but the world's barrier was high. After disappearing from the eyes of fans, the Pearl sisters surprised the world in October 1976 when their older sister Bae In-soon married Choi Won-seok, chairman of Donga Group. When her team was automatically disbanded due to her older sister's marriage, her younger brother Bae In-sook debuted as a solo singer in June 1979 and was recognized, but after she released her second solo album in 1982, she married a Korean-American physician and retired. did. Although it ended in failure, this album, which proves the Pearl Sisters' challenge to enter the overseas market, has value in that it is the only album released in Korea with the name of the Japanese active team 'Jun and Sook' written on it.
