This chilling and bizarre DC Elseworld's story is a mash-up of the world of Batman and the cosmic-horror fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, creator of the Cthulhu mythos. Returning from a decade-long voyage of discovery, Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City, where his parents fell victim to the knife of a madman 20 years earlier. On his journey, Bruce has taken on an international trio of orphaned street kids - whom Batman fans will recognize as various iterations of Robin. During a deadly Arctic encounter, the Penguin informs Bruce that a doomsday cult is planning Gothams destruction. Bruce must now return home and take on the mantle of Batman. But when this man of science discovers he faces not criminals and crazies but actual ancient magic, fiery demons and interdimensional Old Gods, can he retain his sanity?

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Introducing our favourite superhero, but the setting and time period are completely different. After being away for a long time, Bruce Wayne (aka Batman) decides it's finally time to return home. However, little does he know Bruce; he's just made by mistake, and now a powerful ancient evil plagues and threatens the people of Gotham City. As a new animated instalment, the film consists of fun imagery, particularly with Gotham's dark, gritty and grim look, set in the 1920s. David Giuntoli, as the voice of Batman, is excellent. There are also plenty of references and popular character villains who appear unexpectedly throughout the duration. The plot for me was a bit sluggish, but it's passable, somewhat enjoyable, and okay in the end. Those who enjoy seeing Batman in a world that feels highly gritty, supernatural and downright Lovecraftian will be pretty pleased with this animated feature. This review has been written for Sanity. “Those were awful looking penguins” Today I’m stoked. A brand new animated film of my favourite comic book character of all time has arrived! :) This film is based off a limited comic book series published by DC's Elseworlds and created by Mike Mignola. The story of Batman: “The Doom that came to Gotham” places Batman as a pulp hero adventurer in the 1920s. In which he battles against H.P. Lovecraft-inspired creatures and monsters alike. ?? It’s been 20 years since Bruce (Batman) has been to Gotham, he has been on an odyssey of such alongside, familiar hero faces, such as Dick Grayson (Robin) and many more. Batman is once again brought back to Gotham in light of a horrific mystery that he must uncover as the worlds greatest detective. What comes next, will inflict terror and chaos amongst the world. Fans of the comic books & Arkham games will be delighted to know that there are plenty of character appearances, aswell as strong references here. ?? What I really enjoyed about this as a Batman fan was the fact that it was authentically written next to the mini series it was based off. From the moment “The doom that came to Gotham” begins we are treated to action. It’s the first time we have truly seen anything close to horror in D.C animation. I was on edge when Bats was rumbling through the Antarctic landscapes, with his crew before being attacked by horrifying mutant-like penguins. ?? It really makes for a riveting first act and impressive introduction. Having now had 23 animated Batman films it has been quite the ride. Nonetheless, I will say with confidence having seen all of them in order. Batman: “The Doom that came to Gotham” is certainly one of the best made. i appreciate that the D.C writers and teams are working hard to make sure that fans of the comic book storyline’s still have a solid grasp and foundation of how these characters and their stories can come to life in animation. It’s marvellous and I can’t wait to see what’s next from them. ????
