PRODUCT REVIEWS

In 2022, a group of dangerous Korean inmates arrested in the Philippines are being transported back to South Korea. But how does one do this safely without risking the inmates trying to escape and hunt others? The answer? A massive cargo ship. The ship will depart from the Manila Terminal, carrying some hardcore and dangerous criminals. The boat will take two days to arrive at the Port of Busan. More than twenty detectives are joining the inmates on the journey inside the vessel, all of whom carry ten years or more experience on the force. Joining this crew is a doctor and a nurse should anyone require medical care over the two-day journey. However, what starts as a standard trip to South Korea turns into an insane amount of blood, gore, and violence as criminals discover a way to escape their chains and handcuffs, and riots erupt. Now, a huge battle is taking place on the vessel, but there’s also a monstrous secret atop the mighty battle. Who will survive the ultimate blood bath at sea? Project Wolf Hunting consists of many genres. It’s an action-packed film that focuses on crime, but to my surprise, there’s also a minor element of sci-fi and depending on one’s tolerance of blood and violence, one could class this as a horror film. While slow to start with as many characters get introduced, I’m proud to say it doesn’t take long for Project Wolf Hunting to get underway with its storyline, and things get out of control and wild very quickly. While a similar concept to Con Air in that criminals is aboard a large transport, this film goes to another level in both violence and the plot. Things are taken to the extreme regarding the level of violence- plenty of body parts get crushed, blood spraying, bone snapping, faces getting squashed, and the list goes on further. The sci-fi aspect, which plays later into the story, heightens what was already a wild film and reminded me of a few popular video game titles, including Resident Evil. I found this film visually entertaining, with only a few CGI effects displaying a slight dip in quality from the rest of the film. It’s evident that the prime focus for the filmmakers was to show reasonable amounts of violence, and this part, I cannot deny, is done with perfection. Mostly, the music score is also welcoming and adds loads of tension during battles, showdowns, and big reveals. Without spoiling anything relating to the plot, my only major issue is that sometimes the audience cannot take a breath from the extreme levels of violence. For some scenes, it’s just a little too much. There were at least a couple of moments where I couldn’t believe moments of both action and violence were still going on, and it was almost exhausting. On top of this, the runtime is just over two hours. Overall, this is one for those who love violent action films with vast amounts of blood, smashing body parts and what feels like an endless amount of gruesome violence. While the film begins a little slower than ideal, it doesn’t take long for all the wildness of Project Wolf Hunting to commence. Hear me clearly; this isn’t just a crazy violent film; there’s also a fun element of sci-fi and crime. the entire story was unexpected and exciting. Mostly, it’s hugely unpredictable, including the outcome of its story and key characters. Project Wolf Hunting is Con Air on steroids, and I found it to be a bloody, great time. * This review has been written for Sanity.
