They're dying to be his friend.

After the tragic loss of his mother, Oli (Harwood) is threatened with state custody unless he can find a new family. And Oliver does just that: He digs one up at the local cemetery. When Oliver wakes up the next day, the corpses have come to life and he must convince social workers that he now has the perfect family; they just happen to be...decomposing.The Loneliest Boy in the World is a modern fairytale with zombies. It is both a satire and a celebration..... of family values, of the imagery of horror films, of suburban life, of the American Dream and of that ultimate taboo; death.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

When Oli (Max Harwood) loses his mother after having a tragic accident while being in the pool, he becomes lonely, unsure of what to do with his life. A knock at his front door brings bad news. Given his current lifestyle, Oli is soon threatened with state custody unless he starts to live life and, more importantly, begins to make some new friends and become more social outside of his home. While making new friends for Oli is impossible, he gets a wild idea. Oli gets the idea of getting friends in a whole new way by digging them out of a grave site and pretending they are a new family. After digging serval people out of the ground and returning home, something else happens! They begin to interact with Oli as if they were, in fact, alive. Is this in Oli's mind? Or is something supernatural occurring in his living room? Either way, Oli will do everything possible to keep the newfound secret to himself and away from social workers. This film begins extremely strong with its premise and concept, plus it's pretty enjoyable and wacky. Sadly, steam begins to fade in the film's second act, and its conclusions don't end on a solid strong note either. The film is packed with many great musical numbers, partially pop songs from the 80s, which did feel highly fitting. Plus, costume designs, including Oli's new dead family members, were great to see, too. In the end, there's plenty here that I admire and love, and the rest of the film sadly feels like a missed opportunity. * This review has been written for Sanity.
