PRODUCT REVIEWS

The story of Ferruccio Lamborghini going from an Italian farmer, to tractor manufacturer, to founder of the iconic supercars. This film would ideally be aimed at petrol heads who would be interested in the story of Mr Lamborghini, but it doesn't shed light on learning his mechanical skills in the Italian army during WW2. It skips back and fourth through time from the early 1980s looking back on events of the past, but spends too much time on a young Ferruccio meeting his first wife, then too long on creating his tractor company before the emergence of the first Lamborghini tractor. It interprets a version of Ferruccio's rivalry with Enzo Ferrari leading to the creation of Lamborghini supercars. It spends a very long time on the creation of the first Lamborghini car, the 350 GT, but then doesn't spend as much time on the creation of the Lamborghini Miura (first ever road going mid engined supercar) but then it doesn't have any look into the creation of the Countach (most iconic Lamborghini as well as most iconic supercar of the 70s and the 80s) and this I find very puzzling as most petrol heads would want to see this. Frank Grillo doesn't look anything like the real Ferruccio Lamborghini, but he plays the role very well, however Gabriel Byrne is completely miscast as Enzo Ferrari, he looks nothing like the real man, as well as he's barely in the film, it would have been better had the part been played by an unknown Italian actor who at least looks the part of Enzo Ferrari. Throughout the film it refers to a road race between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari, Ferruccio in a Lamborghini Countach but why was Enzo in a Ferrari Mondial? The Mondial is one of the slowest, ugliest and poorly built Ferraris ever made, why wasn't he challenging a Countach with a Testarossa or a 308, or 328? They were the only Ferraris of the early 1980s that would be able to challenge the Countach. This film is had potential, but feels like a miss.
