PRODUCT REVIEWS

Many film lovers are familiar with the cinematic icon, Mad Max, which began with its first feature in 1979, followed by two more film instalments.  To this day, the franchise is one of the greatest Australian film series ever made.  What’s incredible is how many fans worldwide are still in love with this series and how many lives have been changed forever, all in the name of Max. Beyond the Wasteland is a documentary that includes interviews of fans worldwide, from places such as the USA, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan.  Mad Max freaks are all highly obsessed with the film franchise, some of them cosplayers or fanatical collectors.  This feature also reveals some hardcore fans who go so far as to make replica cars and also reenact some of the most dangerous and wild stunts from the original feature film.  Some fans even once had a Mad Max-style wedding inside a "Thunderdome".   Not only do we hear from many Mad Max fans, but this documentary also takes an in-depth look at why fans have connected with this character.  Interviews with the cast and various people reveal how this Australian icon remains a powerful figure in the present day and how the film series will always be spoken about highly, even if Earth becomes a wasteland itself. Being a Mad Max fan, I was excited to see this film.  The film gives an insightful view of the franchise, reflecting on what was achieved and how incredible the films were for their time.  It's also great to witness how fans carry on the Mad Max legacy with confidence, passion, and enthusiasm in their everyday lives.  These fans don’t care what others think because they do what they love, and in return, they gain such freedom in life. Overall, fans of the Mad Max series will find new insights into the series thanks to this documentary.  Looking back over the popular franchise, the documentary examines how it became such a “humongous” success.  For the majority, it's also an in-depth look into the lives of many hardcore fans worldwide who live a free life, celebrating the legendary character that made Australian cinematic history.  It's filled with great interviews and reveals the length fans will go to in the name of Mad Max.  It’s certainly an interesting documentary that I'm confident movie lovers will find relatable and be entertained by the experience on display. * This review has been written for Sanity.
