PRODUCT REVIEWS

Over the last decade, we have seen a gradual decline in the number of Romantic Comedies released into cinemas. The decline on the big screen has been apparent and the genre has found a new home on streaming services. Whilst it's fun to see some of these films at home, for me, nothing beats the experience of watching a film on the big screen and then picking it up on physical media then after. In 2022 we have seen new life breathed into the genre we thought was gone and buried, with 'Marry Me'. 'Marry Me' stars Owen Wilson as Charlie, a single parent looking for love, when he finds it in the most unexpected place, a concert. Here Charlie meets pop sensation Kat as they marry each other on stage in front of thousands of adoring fans. The two then get to know one another and find that they may be suitable for one another after all. I wasn't overly keen on watching this title as I am not the biggest fan of the genre, but I actually found 'Marry Me' to be endlessly watchable and incredibly charming. The film is hinged on the chemistry between our two leads, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez. The two are great with one another. You really buy into their relationship and their feelings for one another. The supporting cast are a lot of fun as well, with the likes of Jonathan Bradley and Sarah Silvermen, among others rounding out the cast. The film doesn't fall into every cliche, rather using the cliches to re-acquaint the audience to the genre that has been absent from this level for quite some time. The film rather plays with the tropes making it feel natural for this world. I also had a lot of fun with the premise of the film. Yes it borrows from other films in the genre such as 'Notting Hill' and yes it is very predictable, but because of the way the story plays out and because of the likeability of our two leads, the film feels fresh and never fails to entertain along the way. The best compliment I can give this film is that it is endlessly watchable. It is not going to win best picture at the Oscars, but it is certainly a crowd pleaser and will definitely appeal to a broad range of filmgoers. I had a blast. 'Marry Me' is smartly directed, well-acted and very charming. I had a blast watching this one and would recommend it to anyone after a harmless, fun time watching a movie. A must watch as well for rom-com genre fans who have been forgotten over recent years. Head on over to Sanity online or to your local Sanity store to pick up a copy of 'Marry Me' on DVD or Blu-Ray today. You won't want to miss this one! It’s the biggest wedding of the year!  Music artists, Kat (Jennifer Lopez) and Bastian (Maluma), are going to get married and launch their new song, “Marry Me”, on a concert stage, an event which will also be live-streamed across millions of viewers around the entire globe!  But when the main event occurs and as Kat prepares to perform her song before delivering her touching vows on stage, she gets word that her soon to be husband has been cheating on her.  Heartbroken and speechless, Kat continues to go on stage and does something crazy. Among Kat’s, loud and wild fans is a man named Charlie (Owen Wilson), a high school mathematics teacher who got dragged along to attend the concert by a fellow teacher and his young daughter.  Now he’s stuck in the audience holding a “Marry Me” sign.  While on stage, Kat sees Charlie from afar and his sign and thinks, “why not”.  On the spot, she offers to marry a stranger, aka Charlie, instead of Bastian.  Seeing her heartbreak, Charlie also thinks ‘why not’ and agrees.  The two exchange vows in front of the world, but the main question is, was this on-the-spot marriage just a stunt, or could there be a chance of true romance between Kat and Charlie? Marry Me is best described as a comedy romance, with touching elements of drama.  This film is beautiful, touching, and light-hearted.  With an easy premise and lots of heart, it’s the perfect film for when a movie fan is in the mood for a rom-com without massive amounts of swearing or nudity.  Call me strange, but it feels like it's been some time since a feel-good rom-com like this was released.  So why does Marry Me work so well? Firstly, I’m shocked to say that Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson are awesome in this film together.  They each have a story of heartbreak and rejection, which feels real and acceptable.  More importantly, I enjoyed the chemistry the two actors share on-screen, which was also rather touching and, again, feels real.  There are no major laughs here, but I did find myself chuckling many times at moments of witty dialogue, especially coming from Owen Wilson.  The side performance from Sarah Silverman was also fun, and she brings great moments that are witty and filled with energy. Overall, Marry Me might seem like a shabby rom-com, but gosh, I enjoyed it a lot.  It’s a great film with plenty of heart, and the performances from both Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson are excellent and lovely to witness on-screen.  Fans of Jennifer Lopez will also be excited about the entertaining musical tracks and elements relating to costumes.  In the end, I was left on a high from viewing this film.  It feels like it’s been a while since movie lovers were greeted by such a charming film like this, so I guess I might say Marry Me exceeded my expectations! * This review has been written for Sanity.
