Claw DVD

The hunt is on. And you're the prey.

After blowing a tire in the middle of the desert while on their way to Los Angeles for a stand-up comedy night, best friends Kyle and Julia are forced to spend the night in a remote ghost town. They reluctantly settle in for the evening inside a dingy caravan provided by the ghost towns strange caretaker Ray, while not so far away in the nearby mountains, trouble brews. A velociraptor, brought to life by a disgraced scientist, escapes its enclosure and makes its way towards the ghost town, hungry and aggravated. With the prehistoric predator now stalking them throughout the sprawling property and no outside help to speak of, Kyle and Julia must work together with Ray to survive. And if they do, they better hope the scientist didnt make any others.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Two best friends Julia (Chynna Walker) and Kyle (Richard Rennie), go on a road trip as Julia has an exciting show she's featuring in (stand-up comedy), and Kyle is along for the ride to help drive and give general support where possible. But while driving, their car gets a flat tyre which is unrepairable. With night skies about to come over, Julia and Kyle have no choice but to seek nearby help. They find a ghost town museum close by and decide to take a look around with hopes of finding one someone who might be able to help. As they wander around the museum, they find the place to be quite empty and creepy. Thankfully, they meet a man named Ray (Mel Made), who offers them help and hospitality for the night with promises of helping them get back on the road in the morning. The stranger also seems to be a dinosaur fanatic. Julia and Kyle are given a caravan to stay in for the night but are soon disturbed by creepy and loud noises plus, it doesn't help that the caravan itself is just a gross mess. Soon, they decide to go elsewhere and run away, but it's too late. They discover they are now being hunted but a prehistoric creature! Can the two escape the town and survive the night? Claw is best described as a horror that also attempts to push hard in an area of comedy. Sure, the plot and concept may seem over the top, but I'm pleased to say that the filmmakers here have embraced it and don't deny it. The fun that the lead actors have with their roles are also evident here. The reasoning for a prehistoric creature is, of cause vague but do movie lovers need any plot device to watch our leads try to survive a raptor attack? Overall, while watching a dinosaur hunt, two leading characters in the present day is a fun and cheesy concept which is bound to entertain many film buffs. The film's biggest praise point is the threat of a prehistoric creature on the hunt, which is creative. Still, the main aspect relating to horror didn't quite work for me here, and the film seems to miss many opportunities and instead becomes more predictable, including its attempts with its scares. The film also tries to be witty and random, which didn't work for me here and the gags don't land a laugh. Claw is a film that many will own and deem as it's so brainless that it might just be the perfect film to suit your craving. * This review has been written for Sanity.
