Kyle (Tyrese Gibson) is an ex-marine with a horrific past. After witnessing the loss of many fellow men, he now works daily as a child protection officer. Kyle still struggles with his past, deals with bad nightmares, and drinks heavily despite his new career choice. He also is afraid of even carrying a gun. When Kyle's stepfather Sam (John Malkovich) travels around the various electronic store to promote himself in his new campaign, a small group of bad guys decide to crash the presentation and hold Sam hostage along with many customers along with retail employees. By a stroke of good luck, Kyle also happens to be in the same complex after rescuing a boy and buying him a nice meal. Now it's up to Kyle to conquer his demons and save his stepfather and the people. If you're seeking an action film, there are some little moments where the audience will get to see Kyle take on the bad guys one by one but again. The bad guys are not overly wise, and sadly the film generally looks bland and dull. The musical score is also the worst aspect of the entire film. Overall, while I was excited to see what our leads could deliver, sadly, this is a cringe-worthy film. With poor lines of dialogue, unlikeable characters, weak villains, and it's completely uninteresting. Rogue Hostage for some movie lovers will be best classed as "so bad it's good", and for others (like myself), it's a complete misfire. *This review has been written for Sanity.
