Get over here.

MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage-or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth's greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana-the immense power from within his soul-in time to save not only his family but to stop Outworld once and for all?

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Mortal Kombat landed earlier this year with excitement and high expectation. It's gory and action-packed, exploring the new and old elements from the video game franchise while managing to squeak out a little bit of fun along the way. The 4K UHD release with HDR10 looks unbelievably impressive and the Dolby Atmos track is energetic and explosive, especially in the third act. There is more than an hour of bonus features that are all worthwhile as well, where you'll spend some time with alot of the amazing Aussie talent involved in making the film. Two thumbs up from me. Highly recommend.

Video game adaptations have proven to be very hit and miss. There have not been too many success stories in the genre, with many of the films falling by the wayside. In 2021, Warner Bros have put together the BEST video game adaptation to date with their adaptation of ‘Mortal Kombat’. ‘Mortal Kombat’ follows MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. With such an immersive world and a great established lore, I was very excited to see what a modern-age film adaptation would look like. SO how was ‘Mortal Kombat’? ‘Mortal Kombat’ was a tonne of fun. The film is filled with references, stunning special effects and incredible action set-pieces that are topped off with impressive stunt work and choreography. As a fan of the game franchise, I was really looking forward to this film and I was incredibly pleased when it was not a disappointment. The performances are all great to, with fellow Aussie Josh Lawson delivering a gut-bustlingly hilarious performance as Kano. He is rude, crude and downright hilarious. Lawson manages to steal every single scene he is in and he makes Australia proud. The use of special effects as well is minimal, but it is also fascinating to see these visuals used in a realistic setting. Director Simon McQuoid understands that this world is brutal and treats the action sequences as such, with audiences feeling every single punch that is delivered from our fighters. ‘Mortal Kombat’ was an absolute blast. Filled with memorable characters, references galore for fans and great action set pieces. As a fan of the game series, I was immensely satisfied with the finished product. I am going to give ‘Mortal Kombat’ a 3.5/5. Be sure to pick up your copy on 4K UHD, Blu-Ray or DVD today! Mortal Kombat (2021) introduces Cole (Lewis Tan), an MMA fighter trying to earn cash by always putting on a good show in the fight ring. He also fights to make money for his partner and young daughter. Cole finds out he is a wanted man by enemies from the Outworld and must join others being hunted. Joining the tiny group of heroes, they must fight in a tournament in order to save Earth and learn what it takes to become a true fighter. This film is based on a well-known video game franchise. Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Mortal Kombat arcade games. Still, I am also a lover of the previous films released in 1995 & 1997 (Yes, I even enjoyed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation only because it is so bad, it is good!) Mortal Kombat (2021) reintroduces the world to its fans in a way that gives a freshness on the big screen. Thankfully, the film works on character introductions and character development from start to finish. The characters that have been selected to feature in this reboot are all likeable (along with the film's villains). Performances are pleasing, and I was most surprised by the unintentional scene-stealing Kano (played brilliantly by Australian actor Josh Lawson). The action in the film is also brilliant. Each fight is visually stunning and very satisfying. Fights between characters also give the audience moments to be stunned by the high level of violence, just like many fans have seen in video games. At no point did I find any of the fighting scenes dull, and each fight differs thanks to the brilliant lineup of characters. Overall, if you are a fan of the games, the comics, and even the classic films from the '90s will be happy with this film. We have a fun plot and a great lineup of familiar characters ready to fight and kill. The action is a great blood bath, and at no point did I feel bored or uninterested by any fight on screen. I enjoyed this film so much I am calling it the best video game adaption I have ever witnessed. It delivers just the right amount of brainless entertainment I had hoped for. *This review has been written for Sanity.
