Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course-and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. PRODUCT REVIEWS

One of the best modern slashers is the ‘Wrong Turn’ franchise. The main franchise has 6 films currently in its chronology. However, in the 2021, we received a reboot of the franchise, with a re-imagined story and plot. ‘Wrong Turn’ (2021) follows friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by 'The Foundation', a community of people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. The film was directed by Mike P. Nelson and stars Charlotte Vega. This film was on my list but I was not sure how it would turn out. So how was ‘Wrong Turn’? ‘Wrong Turn’ (2021) was an absolute blast. The film benefits from a relentless pace, that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat the entire time. Charlotte Vega steals the shows as the film's lead ‘Jen’. She is fantastic, delivering a somber performance, remaining reserved but unleashing as well when required. This is a star-making performance, be prepared to see a lot more of Vega in the near future. Mike P. Nelson also does a fantastic job directing this film. It is a good-looking film, but the film also does not rely heavily on traditional jump scares and horror tropes. The film relies heavily on building tension, suspense, dread, and atmosphere. This combination makes for one of the more intense cinematic experiences in recent memory. All in all, this is the best remakes I have seen in quite some time. ‘Wrong Turn’ has flipped the franchise on its head by creating a completely new take on the film, with a new story and a new villainous faction with ‘The Foundation’. I had a great time with ‘Wrong Turn’ and I am giving this one a 4/5. Pick up your copy on DVD or Blu-Ray today from your local Sanity or Online. Jen (Charlotte Vega) and five of her friends decide to take a hiking trip in Virginia along the Appalachian Trail. Arriving in the community near the hiking trail, they begin preparing for the track but soon receive warnings from community members to not go off course. As they begin the hike, they see nature at its best- nature, woods, waterfalls, rock formations etc. But naturally, one of the group members suggests going slightly off course and explore off the track. Ignoring all warnings not to do so, they figure nothing could go wrong by doing so. Soon they find themselves entering a land that belongs to a hidden community. While Jen and her friends all work together to attempt to stay alive, Jen’s father, Scott (Matthew Modine), also starts his own investigations regarding his daughter’s recent disappearance. This film is not connected to any direct to DVD sequels or the original feature released back in 2003. Wrong Turn (2021) serves more as a reboot. If you seek a new style of horror film that promises a good time, Wrong Turn (2021) is certainly that film. The kills here are brutal and violent. As for the plot, I enjoyed the first act the most as it sets up all the characters and mystery as our leads enter the woods and begin to suffer horrific outcomes. Visually, this is a positive looking horror film. Set designs, including the general look of the caves/underground lairs etc., were all great. Sound effects are also a major standout had my full attention during jump scares or when traps within the woods are unexpectedly set off! Overall, I was left feeling quite surprised at how much fun I found this film to be. Wrong Turn is brutal and violent. The visuals and audio track are extremely pleasing, and the plot is loaded with many surprises and unpredictable moments. Supporting actor Matthew Modine was a surprising element to this film. As a horror, this is a film best shared with a group of mates who are all seeking a new fresh take on the story most movie lovers are familiar with. As a reboot, it is extremely positive.
