From the people that brought you 2004's Dawn of the Dead

One typical evening, Grant (Michael Rooker, The Walking Dead) hits the local bar where he catches up with old friend Brenda (Brenda James). Abandoning their drinks for a moonlight stroll, the pair discovers the remains of what appears to be a meteor and a trail of glistening noxious ooze leading to a pulsating, unidentifiable mass. Suddenly, the glob comes to life and overtakes Grant, penetrating his body with a pustule-covered tentacle. An alien parasite has found and infected its unlucky human host, an unwilling transporter who now must continue to infect others in order to survive.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

The film starts with an asteroid flying to Earth. After crashing into a small town, the asteroid opens and has an unusual amount of slime and pink goo inside. We then get to meet a few leading characters, including the town's new chief officer, Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion), along with a married couple Starla (Elizabeth Banks) and Grant (Michael Rooker). Grant and Starla are having marriage issues, including things relating to the bedroom department. One night, when Grant is feeling ticked, he decides to go for a walk only to encounter the recent asteroid and find a strange alien living inside it. This alien creature attacks Grant and enters inside his body, leaving him a changed man. Now he has the urge to eat lots of raw meat, and his body starts to transform for the worse. His wife Starla begins to become more and more suspicious of Grant's strange activity. Grant slowly plagues the town with the alien creature inside, turning residents around him into mutants and, worse, zombies. Now it's up to chief officer Bill and Starla, along with the remaining police department, to load up their guns, try to survive the night and save the world. Make no mistake; Slither is not your normal horror film. The film includes elements of science fiction and witty comedy; these horror aspects are highly creative and gross, and some viewers may not have the stomach to handle it. I loved the level of creativity, the horror aspects, and the creature designs, which impressed me throughout the duration. Comedy is also another excellent factor in this movie. I found myself concerned at one moment and then having a loud laugh the next. This is primarily due to the random moments our leads find themselves in a great line delivery by Nathan Fillion and Gregg Henry, who plays the town's mayor. Overall, this wonderful horror film delivers fun thanks to witty humour and shocking moments on the big screen. Sure, it will not be for everyone, but I cannot deny the level of creativity relating to several gross creatures on screen. In addition, performances are great, with actor Nathan Fillion taking the lead role. For horror fans, this is a must-watch, even more so now that the film has been re-released via Umbrella Entertainment's "Beyond Genres" line-up. *This review has been written for Sanity.
