PRODUCT REVIEWS

I have always been a sucker for a good investigative thriller. One of my all-time favourite films is David Fincher's ‘Zodiac’ and after seeing the trailer for ‘The Little Things’ I thought that was exactly what we were getting. Starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto, ‘The Little Things’ follows Kern County Deputy Sheriff Joe Deacon (played by Washington) who is sent to Los Angeles for what should have been a quick evidence-gathering assignment. Instead, he becomes embroiled Alin in the search for a serial killer who is terrorizing the city. With a talented cast and an exciting premise, I was very keen to see what this one would turn out to be like. So how was ‘The Little Things’? Whilst not as good as ‘Zodiac’ (because to be frank, what is), the film is still a damn good investigative thriller that will be sure to keep you in its grasp for the entire 2-hour runtime. Populated with magnificent performances, especially from Jared Leto who was downright scary as Albert Spama. The film plays off its cast, providing audiences with a great group of characters and tense character moments that will make you want to sleep with your light on. The film is also superbly handled by veteran director John Lee Hancock (The Founder, The Blind Side, and Highway Men). This film ended up being exactly what I was hoping for, and I can’t wait to watch it again. ‘The Little Things’ was a very creepy and intense thriller, that will be sure to keep your attention. Populated with stunning performances and a great story, I loved what the film was able to do. I am giving ‘The Little Things’ a 4/5. Be sure to pick up your copy on Blu-Ray or DVD today. Joe Deacon used to be a great detective until the workload and stress caught up with him. Now, working as a Deputy Sheriff and has been requested to go back to his old Police Station in Los Angeles to collect evidence. While trying to collect the required evidence, he is notified that the documents are not ready, and Joe must stay in town a bit longer while he waits for the signatures and paperwork to be completed. While waiting, he begins to talk to his old co-workers and soon hears about a series of murders that sound similar to one of his old unsolved cases. Soon he is invited to team up with the leading detective currently on the case, Baxter (Rami Malek). Together, the two will try to catch the serial killer who has taken many young women's lives. Performances are incredibly positive here, from Denzel Washington & Jared Leto. Joe (Denzel Washington) has a dark past, but he is also has a solid eye for detail. More than that, he's pretty compassionate about the lives lost, even more so when justice has not been served. The performances carried this film along and strengthened the mysterious elements. Overall, The Little Things has many elements done right, but it also has many missed opportunities. The solid performances carry this film from start to finish, and the mystery of the film is excellent right up until the credits appear. I found this film to be a positives dramatic thriller, which was great and comes recommended. This review has been written for Sanity.
