PRODUCT REVIEWS

Following a woman (played by Janelle Monáe) who is a slave on a plantation site. Like this woman, their other slaves who are forced to work each day and do horrible things when asked of them. Many have tried to escape, but each attempt ends with heartbreaking consequences. The film also begins with what feels like a one-shot montage which shows someone attempting to escape. This montage also shows the world this woman is forced to work in. For me to tell anything else regarding this film's plot would be a major spoiler for those unfamiliar. I will state the things are not what they appear to be. In case you are curious, Antebellum does not feel like a horror film. It is more of a drama with an added element of thriller. Visually this film is genuinely positive, and it shows off many gritty moments. The audio track is also great, and I found the movies opening alone quite dark, which featured uncomfortable imagery with a stunning soundtrack to begin with. Overall, while Antebellum has brilliant visuals, bright soundtrack, and a positive performance by Janelle Monae. The film is also filled with a few surprises in regard to its plot which is bound to please and shock many movie lovers too!
