PRODUCT REVIEWS

The film begins with a young girl and her father attempting to escape a horrifying tornado storm. During the attempted escape, something awful occurs to the young girl's father. Shortly after the surviving the storm, the young girl wakes up in a bed and we soon learn that her name is Danielle (Blu Hunt). Danielle is the sole survivor of which took the lives of many people in her small community. Danielle is advised she is in a medical facility, but she soon finds out there's more to this place than meets the eye. The facility is, in fact, top-secret and has four other young people. But these teenagers, including Danielle, are quite unusual. Danielle is told she and her fellow patients are mutants. The facility they are in had been created to hold mutants against their will, conduct various experiments and run tests, and ultimately discover their powers. If the newcomers cooperate, they are told they might get transferred to train with the X-Men. In case your not aware, and this is not a standard type X-Men film. This film has been created differently and even introduces a horror aspect instead of being a movie filled with action sequences. I enjoyed how this film presented new leading characters who were all fresh and unique to the world of X-Men. Overall, while I enjoyed this new concept within the Marvel and X-Men universe, I'm saddened to say the results are a mixed bag. On the one hand, the film introduces exciting new characters and a horror aspect anything we've seen before in the franchise. Either way it's certainly worth watching even more so if you're a marvel and superhero fans. *This review has been written for Santiy. In 2018 when Disney purchased Fox, many titles who had scheduled release dates were pushed indefinitely. But amid the COVID-19 Pandemic Disney finally released ‘The New Mutants’ through its newly acquired 20th Century Studios and now this December the title has finally released on Blu-Ray, 4K UHD and DVD! With Director Josh Boone (‘The Fault In Our Stars’) at the helm and a talented cast consisting of – Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton. ‘The New Mutants’ follows five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves. So, with the long wait over, how was ‘The New Mutants’? ‘The New Mutants is unlike any other superhero film I have ever seen. The film is filled with great visuals and a dark and twisted tone that many films of the genre shy away from. The film is dealing with hefty themes of loss, power and coming to terms with said power. The film has a horror sensibility to it as well which makes it stand apart from others in the genre as well, making it feel unique and different. The striking imagery as well is quite impressive, with great special effects, dark imagery, and great use of lighting. Josh Boone really knows these characters well and puts a strong emphasis on them. The cast is all fantastic as well, with Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Glass, The Queen’s Gambit and The Witch) showing once again that she is one of Hollywood’s most promising young actresses. The characters are all fantastic, I would love to see future adventures with these ‘New Mutants’. All-in-all, ‘The New Mutants’ was an interesting, different and well-crafted superhero film that stands apart from its counterparts due to a unique direction taken from writer/director Josh Boone. With jaw-dropping visuals, a great cast and fun action, this was a great surprise and one of the more unique outings in the X-Men universe. I am giving ‘the New Mutants’ a 3/5.
