When Mitch finally arrived, carrying a half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels, he was completely wasted. His live interview with the presenter Alan Bangs is TV history by now, but at that time Peter Ruechel, the producer in charge, was by a hair's breadth of axing the whole thing. But what followed was the real McCoy: Mitch gave all and sung his heart out for the audience.
