Thornapple, a band with unique emotional lyrics and dreamy sound that cannot be imitated, released their debut album “I keep stuttering and forgot how to sleep” in 2010 with only ‘the power of the music itself’ without any publicity. I made this ground firmly. In 2013, when they resumed activities that had been suspended for three years due to the enlistment of the main members, Thornapple received a lot of attention from the public and music officials by appearing in 'Beautiful Mint Life' and M.net's 'Band Age'. This led to a contract with Robot Records. Since then, they have appeared in large festivals such as 'Jisan World Rock Festival' and 'Grand Mint Festival', as well as sold out solo concerts that radiate fatal charm through unique directing and composition. By far, Thornapple is clearly the most notable band in the current scene. The reason they were able to attract attention is their cleverness that doesn't get swept away by 'trends'. Build a unique shape based on musical materials of various genres. Fierce words permeate listeners with the temperature of hot blood. This is the reason we are deeply projected by Thornapple's music in an era where cynicism and indifference are accepted as 'cool'. Thornapple returns with their first new work in 4 years, their second album that is not light by any means, “Abnormal Climate”.

Ten apples of thorns written in the temperature of blood

It is difficult to capture Thornapple's music, which is full of thirst and aspiration and explosive power that burns everything at once, in one album. The meeting with producer Seo Sang-eun refined Thornapple's music to the maximum extent possible within the medium of the record.

The keyword that penetrates Thornapple's 2nd album 'Abnormal Climate' is 'survival'. All songs are revealed in a multifaceted form under one word. The first thing listeners who would have expected an intro track with a solemn and excessive sound is the 'Antarctica' expressed in extreme minimalism. This song, which can be called the album's prologue, spits out fierce words in a calm voice. In 'Silver Spring', which is expected to be performed live, you can feel Thornapple's lyrics and energy-filled sound unlike before. Up to 'Idiot', which sings the obvious theme of 'Boy Meets Girl' and 'Idiot' with keen insight. We find that they are never tautological. In 2013, 'Your Night Alive', recorded in the Mint Paper series album "bright #1", went through a re-recording and became more dense with its unique grotesque. The psychedelic sound texture, dramatic development, captivating melody, and above all, the lyrics longing for 'life', the charm of Thornapple is maximized and melted into it. 'Darkroom', which follows, is the most experimental song in this album, showing their madness, melancholy, and extremes of literature. In 'Veranda', which holds the center in the second half of the album, Thornapple's familiar emotions flow over the unexpected and strange material called dub. It is a song that has reached its peak in terms of internal perfection. From 'Haze', which sings that I am alive here and now, to 'Lion by the Water', which will be a new song, the 2nd album, “Abnormal Climate” tells the story of Thornapple's survival.

Do nothing in a huge world, just survive

As I said before, “Ideal Climate” is a kind of concept album. It is a collection of short stories written on one theme, and it is one big 'story' in which each chapter is organically intertwined and woven. There are many albums that have great song hooks or that have a consistent musical structural similarity. Such an album is also a great album. However, I can say for sure that there is no band in the current band scene that sings a single topic with 100% energy so intensely that it is so 'cheesy'. These idiots eloquently speak of 'survival' in this huge world. Here, 'survival' means 'just being alive' without any meaning or value standard. The thrown existence, the sublime of life itself.

As familiar things fade to the other side of nostalgia, the unfamiliar tropics, bad weather, and “abnormal climate” that we have flowed into. Do nothing, say nothing cold, just survive.
