Artist Statement: This recording is a tribute to Jesus and Paul Horn. Yes, in that order. As a minister and flutist, they are my primary influences. I have always loved Paul's Christmas Album ("The Peace Album"). Paul and I play with the same special effects. When my producer, Rich Kurtz gifted me with the opportunity to make a Christmas album, I immediately told him I wanted to create something along those lines. We agreed to utilize my collection of ethnic flutes. Each selection has it's own Spirit. We let the songs sing through us. O Little Town of Bethlehem was written in Philadelphia in 1865. James Redner heard the melody in a dream. I wanted the song to sound as if it was being whispered by angels in a dream, so I used breath-tones, whistles-tones and harmonics. The idea to add monks to O Holy Night came one summer day, as I practiced in my music room. A lawn mower was droning in the distance. Something in the creative mind said, "Yes! A drone is perfect here! Instead of a lawnmower, it will be monks and a tamboura!" The Twelve Flutes of Christmas - C Flute, Piccolo, Shakuhachi, Ocarinas, Alto Flute, Lingby, Tin Whistle, Pakistani Flute and Love Flute. The last note on The Lord's Prayer is an overtone. It's like an angel kiss at the end of the CD. We did not plan it and I did not play it. The frequency of the note and the effect combined to create it and you can only hear it on certain speakers. Considered your ears loved. Merry Christmas! Pamela Whitman.
