Introducing the 9th instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise! This time fans are given a spin-off movie featuring characters Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). The two men are forced to work together after they both become aware of a dangerous virus which could wipe out all humanity. The deadly virus is currently hidden inside the body of Shaw’s sister, who is an MI6 agent. She and the virus require protection from a new enhanced villain played by Idris Elba. After the success of seeing the two leading characters interact within in “Fast and Furious”, I was generally excited to hear that the two would return with their very own film. As one would expect, the film is filled with insane and over the top action sequences. The film attempts to bring more depth to both leads, but it all relates to once again talking about their family. While this idea sounds ok, it all comes off slightly cheesy, and the film even becomes predictable, leaving you knowing what is going to occur before the credits appear on the screen. Overall, the film generally brings what I expected- random fun one-liners with brainless action from start to finish. The film sets up another a future spin-off and even leaves questions unanswered. Either way, if it is popcorn and laughter you want, here is it. As a 9th instalment, it’s a slight sidestep from the series, but I can’t deny there’s still lots of fun to be had. *This review has been written for Sanity.
