Alan Alexander "A.A." Milne (18 January 1882 – 31 January 1956) was the author of the original Winnie the Pooh series of books, illustrated by E.H. Shepard. 

These books included the original Winnie-the-Pooh, as well as The House at Pooh Corner. Milne was also noted novelist, poet and playwright, though he remains to a large degree most widely known for the stories he wrote for his son, Christopher Robin Milne, about a "tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff" named Winnie the Pooh. 

The characters in the story were based on Christopher's toys.
