Bubble Puppy Hot Smoke And Sasafrass Vinyl
Label-mates of The 13th Floor Elevators - and more successful hit singles-wise - the Bubble Puppy scored International Artists' biggest hit single with the timeless 'Hot Smoke & Sasafrass', a US Top 20 smash in 1969.
'Hot Smoke' might have become an International hit had Apple Records been able to license the song for release in the UK and Europe.
Despite their repeated requests, International Artists turned The Beatles down... Newly remastered from recently discovered master tapes, the much-sought after mono single version is now pressed on limited edition clear "hot smoke" vinyl with replica IA labels and housed in a picture sleeve featuring a rare photo of the band taken from the sessions for their one and only International Artists LP 'A Gathering Of Promises' (newly remastered and expanded stereo album version coming in 2018).
Bubble Puppy was formed in 1966 in San Antonio, Texas, by Rod Prince and Roy Cox who had previously performed together in The Bad Seeds. After a few line-up changes, they were joined by David Fore and Todd Potter and signed to the Houston-based International Artists label.
The use of dual lead guitars was first pioneered by the Bubble Puppy and adopted later by the likes of Wishbone Ash and the USA's Allman Brothers Band and The Eagles.
The single and forthcoming remastered album have both been produced with the surviving band members' full participation. The song has been covered by MGMT and is currently enjoying renewed interest following the Bubble Puppy's recent reformation and live concerts and induction into the Austin Chronicle Music Awards Hall of Fame.
