Shockwave Supernova, a concept album based on Satriani’s unique on-stage alter ego of the same name, finds the world-renowned guitarist reaching deep into his bag of tricks, offering extensive, blues-influenced jams (“San Francisco Blue”) and intense, complex instrumentation (“A Phase I’m Going Through,” “Crazy Joey”). The album also features a host of unexpectedly introspective tunes, with “Butterfly and Zebra,” “Goodbye Supernova” and “All of My Life” conveying deep reflection in their melodies.
