They say nothing can evoke memories like music. And nothing can transport you back to your favourite surf movie moments like their original soundtracks. You can be psyched, fully psyched, psycho or psyched out, but nothing gets you 'Psyched' like the right pairing of surfing action and a pumping soundtrack!

'Psyched' is the ultimate compilation of the greatest moments in surf movie soundtracks from 1982 to 2014, handpicked to have you traveling back in time to the high rotation surf videos of your youth, and fully psyched for your next surf session.

Featuring Sunnyboys, Coldplay, Leonard Cohen, You Am I, Midnight Oil, Yothu Yindi, Iggy Pop and Silverchair, 'Psyched' spans eras and musical styles, with high voltage surfing and treasured surf memories the common denominator.

It is hardly surprising that master surf filmmaker Jack McCoy's movies account for a third of the playlist of this legendary compilation. "I have always believed that music is the emotion of all of the images I create," says Jack. "I've always tried to get the best music I can to go with the pictures and I've had the honour of being able to use what I consider to be very, very cool music and I'm super grateful for every artist who gives me their blessings."

'Psyched' spans an era when the 16 mm surf movie in the local hall gave way to VHS videotapes in every home, grommets thrashing their favourite surf flicks until the tapes skipped and blurred and finally broke.

No one knows this better than former world number two, Gary "Kong" Elkerton, whose scenes from seminal surf movies the Performers and Kong Island's produced two of the classic tracks on 'Psyched.'

Kong's radical, animal attack in Kong's Island and the Performers is complemented perfectly by two Australian rock classics, Sunnyboys' Tunnel of Love and Rose Tattoo's Scarred For Life. "We'd met the Sunnyboys prior and Jeremy (Oxley) was a surfer so we knew those guys pretty well," says Kong. "Sunnyboys stayed in my red Sigma in the cassette player for many years and it went down well with the girls because it was from a movie I was in."

Similarly, Rose Tattoo's Scarred For Life provided the ideal soundtrack to Kong's fearless charging in Hawaii in the Performers, after nearly destroying his knee and most of his quiver. "That winter I got hit by a board at Sunset and had 60 stitches in my left knee. I was only out of the water for three weeks which the doctors thought was pretty outrageous," recalls Kong. "It meant a lot to me, how Rose Tattoo really brought my section to life. The bandage on my knee and the rebellious guy I was, that song brings back to me a big part of my life."

'Psyched' is the brainchild of Footstomp Music's Graham Ashton, an obsessive surfer and music fan, with liner notes provided by respected surf writer Tim Baker.
