PRODUCT REVIEWS

Andrew (Miles Teller) is a drummer who has large dreams and carries the potential to become one of the best drummers of our time. Upon joining a music conservatory group, he is given an instructor and mentor named Fletcher (J.K. Simmons). On the first day of practice, Andrew discovers that his new mentor will push him harder than anyone before to unlock his ultimate potential as a drummer. While at first, Andrew is keen on this new opportunity and feels like he is making a huge step in the right direction, Andrew is soon in for a huge shock. Can he handle Fletcher's teaching methods, or will he give up on the dream opportunity that has been presented to him? Whiplash is best classed as a solid drama. Many moments on-screen are tense and uneasy to watch, especially when we witness Fletcher's method of attempting to teach his young students into something far greater than they could ever imagine. Performances are unforgettable. J.K. Simmons brings what I feel is the greatest role within his entire career, and the performance of young Andrew by Miles Teller is equally impressive. The two leads are always believable. I have always enjoyed the film's style and the even the look of this film when it comes to visuals. Thankfully, this film also has a beautiful soundtrack with many great moments of jazz music. The audio track when it comes to sound effects is also wonderful, especially on the recent 4K UHD release, thanks to Australian distributor Umbrella Entertainment. Overall, Whiplash is an outstanding film. While it is not a film that is easy to watch, it's an unforgettable film based on the level of tension and drama. The performance from J.K Simmons might be the best work within his whole acting career, and actor Miles Teller is not far off that mark either. The 4K release includes an excellent audio track for both effects and the pleasing jazzy soundtrack. Achieving the right tempo in all areas, this film naturally comes highly recommended, and I'm proud to say it is one of my all-time favourites. *This review has been written for Sanity.
