The John Wilson Orchestra has become one of England’s most beloved music institutions. The panache and finesse with which they revive classic Hollywood film scores has charmed listeners around the world.

Following this year’s hotly anticipated Prom, Kiss Me Kate (Cole Porter’s Tony Award-winning musical), the new album Cole Porter in Hollywood captures all the toe-tapping energy of the live performances while offering a broader selection of Porter’s greatest tunes for the silver screen, some of the best loved in the American Songbook.

Recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road studios, the 15 songs on the album are world premieres of the newly constructed original 1948 orchestrations, plunging listeners into the lush, authentic sound-world of Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Bing Crosby heard in films such as Anything Goes, High Society and Can-Can.

The year 2014 also marks the orchestra’s 20th anniversary. With its nine-piece percussion section, full jazz big band and guest singers featuring Broadway legend Kim Criswell, John Wilson’s ensemble embodies the glitzy golden age of Hollywood orchestras.
