On July 18th, Slow Club return with their third album to date Complete Surrender released on Caroline Australia. A giant musical leap onwards from 2011’s Paradise, Complete Surrender, produced by Colin Elliot (Richard Hawley), is an exquisite collection of soulful, sophisticated pop songs with influences ranging from Frankie Valli and Marvin Gaye through to Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.

The album opens with the wonderful melancholia of ‘Tears of Joy’. A sultry beat and infectious bassline provide the skeleton of the track, whilst Charles and Rebecca’s trademark vocal interplay glides elegantly over the top, building into a chorus that perfectly showcases the rest of the album to come.

First single ‘Complete Surrender’ builds from the opening track, introducing a fuller sound, utilizing sweeping strings, a galloping beat and the band’s rich and soaring vocals to create a track that treads a perfect line between being wonderfully nostalgic and compellingly contemporary. ‘Suffering You, Suffering Me’ takes Slow Club’s new sound up yet another notch, opening with Rebecca’s intimate yet powerful vocal and progressing into an epic powerhouse of a pop song, complete with brass section and totally unforgettable hook.

Not ones to stick to any kind of formula, Charles and Rebecca pull things back for possibly the most moving moment, ‘Number One’, on which their voices and harmonies really come to the fore, gliding effortlessly over a simple, chord led piano part.

Complete Surrender is the sound of a band coming into their own and creating an album brimming with confidence, skill and managing, throughout, to harness both the spirit of their influences and theirconstant desire to experiment.
