'Battle Plans' is the ambitious debut EP from WA four-piece Warning Birds. Amidst a resurgence of sunny surf-pop, Warning Birds offer an unsettled vision of life by the sea, drawn from songwriter Sam Carmody's childhood recollections of darkness and dysfunction in a rural coastal town. The girl/boy lead vocals of Carmen Pepper and Sam Carmody move the EP through its intersecting stories. Characters and settings recur and overlap, all against production that oscillates between darkness and colour; from the sonically bleak and haunted to uplifting and energetic.
