Thelma Plum is an 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Brisbane who casts a spell on all people in her path; she is set to release her forthcoming debut EP ROSIE, which features lead single ‘Around Here’, a track that can be heard as a sunny burst of self-assertion.
Between the long-distance lilt of the title track (that's "Rosie" on the cover) to the hard-won resilience of the string-laden BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT, ROSIE is a rare instance of an artist arriving fully formed on the public stage.
In 2011, Thelma was in the first intake of students to graduate from Music Industry College, a senior high school in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley. She then cut her teeth performing and serving in Gold Coast cafes, where she clicked with a star barista named Andrew Lowden who happened to be a muso as well.
The immediacy of their chemistry is perhaps best illustrated by the EP's final track, KING, which was co-written over a backstage piano in a matter of minutes last September, just before Thelma took the stage to accept the Sydney Opera House Award for emerging talent at the 2012 Deadly Awards.
