Fiona is a native of Morayshire and has lived in Dingwall, near Inverness, for the last 23 years. She was brought up in the Scots folk tradition and sings in both the Scots tongue and in Gaelic. She has won various Gaelic awards, including a Mod Gold Medal, and was voted ‘The BBC Radio Scotland Personality of the Year’ at The Scots Trad Awards in 2004.  This is her third album for Greentrax Recordings: the first was the ground-breaking ‘Duan Nollaig’ (CDTRAX320D), followed by ‘A Good Suit of Clothes’ (CDTRAX339) - a unique collection of songs of the emigrant Gael. Fiona is also a member of Kilmarnock Edition whose debut album is due out soon.   ‘Archipelago’ is a collection of songs in Gaelic, Scots and Norn from islands all across Scotland, from Shetland in the far north to Ailsa Craig in the south. For this album, Fiona has invited a host of special guest musicians and singers, including Barbara Dickson (vocals), Gillian Frame (fiddle), Yvonne Lyon (vocals), Mairi Chaimbeul (clarsach), Morven MacLeod (vocals), Alex Hodgson (vocals), Iain Mackinnon (vocals) and The Cast (vocals, viola and guitar). Graeme Duffin (guitars), Sandy Jones (programming) and David Lyon (keyboards) also added their session skills.   The album was recorded at The Foundry Music Lab by Graeme Duffin and Sandy Jones.
