It can be easily said that John R. "Johnny" Cash was by far one of the greatest singer-songwriters in American music history. Not only seen as an accomplished musician and performer, he is also remembered as a fine actor and writer. Although he is primarily recognised for his contribution to country music, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly, rock and roll, as well as blues, folk, and gospel.This crossover appeal led to Cash being inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Gospel Music Hall of Fame respectively. Late in his career, Cash covered songs by several pop and rock artists, and enjoyed a resurgence of popularity. Cash best known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice; for his rebelliousness, coupled with an increasingly sombre and humble demeanour; for providing free concerts inside prison walls; and for his dark performance clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". Much of Cash's music, especially that of his later career, echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation and redemption, all personal experiences throughout the life of this unique man. His signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Ring of Fire" all presented here, along with many other of his classic tunes during a memorable concert recorded in New York City, circa 1994!
