Directed by William Wyler and produced by Sam Zimbalist, this 1959 epic film of Lew Wallace's 1880 novel deals with the life of Judah Ben-Hur, played by Charlton Heston. Also starring Jack Hawkins, the movie went on to win multiple awards including Oscars in 1960 for Best Music and Best Sound, a 1961 GRAMMY Award and a 1960 Golden Reel Award. The famous chariot race is considered to be one of the most spectacular action sequences ever filmed and the score – composed and conducted by Miklós Rózsa -remains one of the most popular motion picture scores ever written.
