In a time when Islam is under attack from within and without, A Jihad for Love is a powerful documentary, filmed over five years, in twelve countries and nine languages. This, the first feature-length documentary to explore the complex global intersections of Islam and homosexuality, was filmed under great risk. In many nations with a Muslim majority, laws based on Quranic interpretations are enforced by authorities to monitor, entrap, imprison, torture and even execute homosexuals.
At times employing undercover style camera-work to access a broad depth of Islamic experience, A Jihad for Love looks beyond a hostile and war-torn present to reclaim the Islamic concept of a greater Jihad, which can mean 'an inner struggle' or 'to strive in the path of God'.
