Virunga is the guitar-rich, pulsing beat of benga rhythm, touched by a family of other Kenyan styles, melded with East African rumba with its sparse, clean guitar, horns and saxes. Add a dash of Congolese rumba influence with those tight vocals and long sebenes (instrumental climaxes) and you’re only starting to get close to describing this.
