Operation: Mindcrime II is a follow-up to Queensrÿche's 1988 original release, Operation: Mindcrime. It was released on April 4, 2006 in North America, (March 29, 2006 release in Japan, March 31 in Germany, April 3 rest of world) on the Rhino Entertainment label. The first single and video, "I'm American" was released on March 14, 2006, with a second single and video, "The Hands," currently planned for a May 16, 2006 radio release.

The band has said that the album will be a chronologically correct sequel to its predecessor, taking place 18 years later after the protagonist Nikki was imprisoned, and will mainly revolve around his thoughts of revenge.

The album debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at #14, the highest chart position for a Queensrÿche album since Promised Land peaked at #3 in 1994.
