Often when a band puts out a new record, you hear all sorts of things about them changing direction and exploring new styles and that sort of thing. Well, NO DOUBT, to say the least, have indeed followed a new path on 'Rock Steady'. Don't worry, they've not spontaneously discovered a lantent passion for Medieval Bulgarian folk music or anything - the ska/punk roots are still there, however elements of hip hop, dancehall, trip-hop, house and funk have definitely crept into the mix errm... no doubt the culmination of the band's work with premier producers like the Neptunes, William Orbit, Sly and Robbie, Steely and Cleevie, Nellee Hooper and Prince. The album also includes the single 'Hey Baby', produced by legendary Jamaican duo Sly and Robbie and featuring dancehall star Bounty Killer. It's the natural follow-up to Gwen Stefani's recent Top five hit with Eve 'Let Me Blow Your Mind' - mixing contemporary urban sounds with the rich Jamaican heritage that No Doubt have always appreciated.
