Juror #2 (2024) Movie Review

Clint Eastwood has made a name for himself as one of the best actors and directors of all time, creating some of the most iconic characters to ever grace the silver screen. His impressive career spans over 70 years, with his first acting appearance being ‘Revenge of the creature’ in 1955. Since then, he has acted in 73 roles and directing 43 films, winning 4 Academy Awards (Oscars), during this time. His most iconic work has been done behind the camera, with Eastwood directing films such as, ‘Unforgiven’, ‘Mystic River’, ‘Letters to Iwo Jima’, ‘Flags of Our Fathers’, ‘Gran Torino’, ‘J-Edgar’, ‘American Sniper’, ‘The Mule’, ‘Richard Jewell’ and 2024’s ‘Juror #2’.

Juror No.2’ marks Eastwood's 43rd feature, pairing him this time with the acting talents of Nicholas Hoult, J.K Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, Zoey Deutch and Toni Collette, the film released straight to Max in the USA and received a physical release here in Australian thanks to the folks over at Roadshow films. ‘Juror #2’ is a courtroom drama following Juror No.2 Justin Kemp, as he serves the jury on a high-profile murder trial, Justin starts to struggle with a serious moral dilemma, one he could sway the jury verdict and potentially convict or free the wrong killer. I am a massive sucker for court room dramas, they hold a special place in my heart and every time there’s a new one, I find myself watching along. Juror No.2 doesn’t disappoint.

Juror No.2 is a solid drama, with a great central mystery at the centre of the film. Clint Eastwood, at the age of 95, is still turning out some of the best dramas out there. The film is anchored on his sure-handed direction, with him showcasing his ability to maintain drama, tension and get fantastic performances out of his talented cast. It’s a testament to his reputation in the movie-making business, as he still has a gravitas that is unmatched by a lot of modern directors, with his name still holding a lot of clout in Hollywood and attracting some of the biggest names in front of the camera.

Nicholas Hoult has had a strong resurgence in the last few years, starring in a range of different flicks and to great critical acclaim. In 2024 alone, Hoult was a lead in 4 major films: ‘The Order’, ‘Juror No.2’, ‘The Garfield Movie’ and ‘Nosferatu’. In Juror no. 2, he re-establishes his dramatic chops, having to sell the conflicted nature of Justin and what he is experiencing. The nuances of his performance here are really solid, as he sells the drama whilst also making you understand why he is so conflicted about this massive decision. The supporting cast here also do a fantastic job, J.K Simmons shows up as an ex-cop/fellow juror, Toni Collette is the District Attorney pursuing the case, Kiefer Sutherland as Justin’s lawyer friend and sponsor and Zoey Deutch as Justin’s pregnant wife. Its an impressive cast, and Eastwood manages to get the best out of them.

Overall, Juror No.2 is a solid thriller, with plenty of twists and turns throughout to help sell the drama and keep you on the edge of your seat. The tension is palpable and well-crafted from Eastwood, as he’s able to create so much, from such a limited setting. The cast are fantastic, with Nicholas Hoult continuing his hot streak. This is a must-watch for film fans and those wanting a decent thriller. Pick-up your copy today on DVD from the team at Sanity, you won’t want to miss it!
