How Lady GaGa Killed it in House of Gucci

How Lady GaGa Killed it in House of Gucci

Ridley Scott killed it in 2021 releasing two high-quality drama films, one was the period epic ‘The Last Duel’ the other was the family drama/thriller ‘House of Gucci’. One of the most exciting things about the film was its impressive ensemble cast which includes Lady GaGa, Adam Driver, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, and Jared Leto. After her academy award-nominated turn as Ally, audiences were wondering what she would follow up this iconic performance with, and low and behold, it was Ridley Scott’s ‘House of Gucci’ as Patrizia Reggiani. GaGa is electrifying as Patrizia, showing an unhinged and often ruthless side that comes across as quite frightening during the film. To celebrate the release of the film on physical media, I am here to tell you exactly how and why GaGa kills it in ‘House of Gucci’. So, without further ado, here they are.

Her interplay and Chemistry with the rest of the cast – As mentioned, ‘The House of Gucci’ has an impressive ensemble cast, but one of the more impressive aspects of this is how GaGa interacts with every member of this cast. Her chemistry with Adam Driver is electrifying. The two of them are great on-screen together. You really buy their relationship and the ultimate demise of that relationship. As mentioned, she is ruthless and calculating, wanting to push her way to the top. We see this in the way she manipulates members of the Gucci family, this is most apparent through her interactions with Jared Leto’s Paolo Gucci (who is also great by the way). Their interplay is fun, with great interaction between the two of them at Paolo’s house. Salma Hayek and Gaga are also good on-screen together, their relationship is interesting and has a great payoff later in the film. Hayek plays Pina, a psychic feeding advice to Gaga's Patrizia. All-in-all, her interplay with the entire ensemble is fantastic and one of the strongest elements of her performance. With so many heavyweights on-screen together, it can be hard to stand out and Lady GaGa does this in spades.

Her command of the screen – As briefly touched upon, Lady GaGa is mesmerising on screen. She controls each scene she is in. When she is on-screen, she is the focal point, all eyes are on her. She channels a young Meryl Streep or even dare I say, Audrey Hepburn. She portrays the ruthlessness of her character to a tee, channeling various emotions throughout her journey. She starts as a determined person, but still grounded in reality, by the halfway point, we are starting to see the cracks in her psyche and by the third act of the film, she is a broken shell of a woman she uses to be and GaGa does an incredible job at displaying this growth and transition. Her command of the screen is on point and is one of the reasons that GaGa kicks butt in this film.

Lady GaGa is one of the best actresses working at the moment and her careful selection of the roles she takes has resulted in some truly remarkable work. Her performance here in ‘House of Gucci’ is one of the best of 2021. It’s a shame she has been snubbed for the Oscar because there is a huge chance, she would have one against the current candidates. The film in general is quite good, but GaGa’s performance elevates it to a whole other level.
