For her sixth studio album, Delta Goodrem is exploring an authentic approach to her soundscape with a record full of live instrumentation and vulnerable stories from her past. ‘Bridge Over Troubled Dreams’ is the most candid and direct the singer-songwriter has ever been. From the opening moments of lead single ‘Keep Climbing’, to the final notes of ‘Play’ she lays her heart in the open with these autobiographical moments that fittingly intertwines with her debut book where she shares the intimate stories behind the songs. From her tongue paralysis, to the strength of her friends, the power of new love, the courage of heartbreak, the devastating truth about her birth, and the bond she built with Elton John; all the stories are right there.
With a lot of singles having been shared prior to the albums release the unreleased tracks are where fans will immediately steer towards, and they won’t be disappointed. ‘Dear Elton’ and ‘Kill Them With Kindness’ are wholesome favourites, while ‘Crash’ will have you feeling heavy and emotional. But ‘The Power’ is one of the most exciting cuts on the record. With it’s grand instrumentation, you can immediately imagine her opening her upcoming tour with this song. It just has such a big energy behind it along with perfect choir singalong moments that the crowd will excitingly take the lead on without hesitation.
Delta Goodrem has always had an authentic approach in everything she does, but this album certainly cements that. With no big pop-dance songs or synthesisers, she really hones her love of instrumentation and songwriting with these truthful and honest songs. This next chapter is all about her opening up and being candid with her fans, and it’s a record that’s going to resonate with them heart to heart.
