ALBUM REVIEW: Maroon 5 - Jordi

ALBUM REVIEW: Maroon 5 - Jordi

Maroon 5 have evolved a lot since the release of their debut album ‘Songs About Jane’ in 2002, and with a career spanning 19 years then you would rightfully expect that. Their seventh studio album ‘Jordi’ is their most pop centred release yet and hears them moving even further away from the instrument heavy sound behind their first five records. Now charged by synths, electronic beats, rap features and RNB influences, Maroon 5 totally feel like a new band.

Lead singles ‘Beautiful Mistakes’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion, ‘Memories’ and ‘Nobody’s Love’ perfectly preludes to what you can expect from the other eight tracks. ‘Lost’ is the clear standout that sounds like it should be on heavy rotation on radio, and is reminiscent of the sound behind their fifth studio album ‘V’. ‘Echo’ featuring blackbear is another potential future radio favourite while the Stevie Nicks collaboration ‘Remedy’ is a surprise favourite.

Dedicated to their manager Jordan Feldstein who passed away in 2017, this record is all about new directions and about being unapologetically who they want to be as a band with no regrets, and that is the message to take away from this album.
