4 More 4K Titles To Look Forward To From Roadshow!

4 more 4K titles to look forward to from Roadshow!

After 100th year celebrations in 2023, Roadshow and Warner Bros are continuing to deliver with another slate of 4K Ultra HD remasters arriving in March and April 2024. We’ve already seen classics such as: The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca, Rebel Without a Cause, Cool-hand Luke, Unforgiven, Rio Bravo, V For Vendetta, Beetlejuice, and many, many more hit shelves over the past 2 years. Now we can look forward to another slate of releases. To celebrate these upcoming releases, I’ll be telling you why you need to pick up these titles and add them to your film collection. So, without further ado let’s go!

Contagion (2011) –

In 2011 when Contagion first released in theatres, I don’t think anyone knew that we would live out the events of the film, but here we are in 2024, where we did in fact live through a global pandemic in the form of COVID-19 in 2020/21, that did in fact play out very similarly to the events in Contagion. Steven Soderbergh’s film was underappreciated at the time of its release, but since then, and through the glorious insight from looking at the film retrospectively, audiences around the globe have been able to look back fondly at the film and appreciate it more after re-visiting. The films ultra-realistic tone and focus on the politics, whilst shifting perspective from the medical teams, the government, and the regular, everyday person, does provide a holistic approach to the material providing audiences with the full picture of what an event like this would be like, what the implications would be and how the real threat of fear spreads just like a virus does. The film’s advertisement campaign nailed it with their tagline “Nothing spreads like fear”. The films impressive cast also help this film, with the likes of Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Bryan Cranston, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, John Hawkes, Elliott Gould, Jennifer Ehle and Chin Han rounding out one of the best and most-underrated casts of all time. The film's slow burn was criticized by moviegoers upon initial release, but retrospectively, the choice to have the film slowly build, works magnificently, as it creates tension and builds suspense in a realistic manner. Contagion is the perfect film to receive the 4K Ultra HD treatment, as it was underappreciated in its time, but has since garnered a strong following. All the special features previously included on the Blu-Ray will also feature here. The Departed (2006) –

Director Martin Scorsese has one of, if not the, best filmography of all time. When you make a list of the best films of all time, Marty’s classics always find their way in there. You may find it hard to believe, but the legendary filmmaker only has one best directing Academy Award to his name, and that Oscar was given to him for his 2006 remake of the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller ‘Infernal Affairs’, ‘the Departed’ in 2007. A film I often regard as one of my favourite Scorsese films. It tells the tale of an undercover cop and a mole in the police department, attempting to identify each other whilst infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston. The game of cat and mouse here is riveting, brought to life by Scorsese’s expert direction and the magnificent performances from its immensely talented cast. Leonardo DiCaprio plays our informant Billy, flexing his acting muscle, Matt Damon is the mole in the police Department Colin, Jack Nicholson is our crime boss, Costello and Mark Wahlberg snagged an oscar nomination for his role as police officer Dignam. That’s not to mention the other heavy hitters that round out the impressive cast, Vera Famiga, Ray Winstone, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, James Badge Dale, Anthony Anderson, and Kevin Corrigan. I, along with other film fans and collectors have been waiting for this classic film to hit 4K Ultra HD and finally in April, our prayers will be answered, with a new 4K UHD release of the film hitting stores 24 April 2024. This will be a must own for all film collectors! Pre-order your copy here - https://www.sanity.com.au/products/2984669/Departed--Blu-ray--UHD-The

Training Day (2001) –

When it comes to cop thrillers, there are few that rival director Antoine Fuqua and writer David Ayer’s 2001 film ‘Training Day’. The film lives in infamy, often regarded as the best film that takes place over one day. Winner of the best actor Academy Award for this film, Denzel Washington stars as a rogue detective Alonzo, as he is teamed up with Jake (played by Ethan Hawk who was also nominated for best supporting actor at the 2002 Oscars) a rookie cop, over the course of a day. As you may expect, things don’t go to plan. The film is anchored by the two lead performances. Washington and Hawke are electric in the film, sharing amazing chemistry with one another and constantly trying to one-up each other in the film, which is to the benefit of the audience who get to watch these two acting legends go up against each other. This film will make a perfect addition to my 4K UHD collection. The Goonies (1985) –

One of the best and most beloved 1980s films, remains ‘The Goonies’. Directed by Richard Donner (Superman) and written by Chris Columbus (Home Alone) and Steven Spielberg (Jaws, Raiders of The Lost Ark, E.T, Jurassic Park and many more), the film remains the go-to flick for childlike wonderment and adventure. The films follow a group of young misfits, as the films title suggests, called ‘The Goonies’, who discover an ancient map and set out on an epic adventure to find the legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure. The Goonies band together against all odds and show us what it truly means to be a friend. This film has always had a profound effect on me. It perfectly captures youth and the wonderment that comes with a sense of adventure. The characters are all relatable and there wouldn’t be a single person in the world who didn’t possess qualities of Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Mouth, Sloth, Andy, Stef, or Data. The kids’ interactions with one another and the chemistry each of the talented young cast have with one another, is what makes the film as memorable as it is. The cast of course had Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Ke Huy Quan. This is a must-own for film fans, and the film legitimately ranks as one of my favourite films of all time and is a must own for all film collectors on 4K UHD. Pre-order yours now, so you don’t miss out when The Goonies hits Sanity on 10 April 2024, link here - https://www.sanity.com.au/products/2984667/Goonies--Blu-ray--UHD-The
