3 Reasons Why Black Adam was worth the 10 year wait!  

For almost more than a decade, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been working with DC and Warner Bros to develop a ‘Black Adam’ film and finally in 2022 we got one. ‘Black Adam’ in the comic books was traditionally a villain of ‘Shazam’ and ‘Superman’, but due to The Rock’s star power, he plays more like an anti villain in this film. Even though DC and The Tock have since parted ways after the release of this film, Black Adam still remains to be a lot of fun and a worth while film, especially for fans of ‘The Rock’. So to celebrate the release of Black Adam on DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K UHD, I will be breaking down 3 reasons why you need to check this film out. So without further ado, let’s get stuck into it!

The Rock’s star power, signature charm and charisma - 

As everyone knows, ‘The Rock’ remains to be one of, if not, the biggest star on the planet. He has charisma to spare and is always the best part of every movie he’s in. A natural next step, was always going to be the biggest genre in the world, comic book films.  Because he has such a love for the character of Black Adam as well, we knew that he was going to give his all to the role he believes, he was born to play. His trademark charisma and acting ability really elevate his character above your run of the mill, anti-hero. He’s a lot of fun here and proves that he was in fact born to play the role. I don’t know if the film would have worked as well, if there was another actor in the title role. He’s that good in this film! 

Black Adam vs the world - the action - 

They’ve benchmark for modern superhero films is to have great action. Regardless of the type of film, the action needs to be big in scope, with high stakes, strong special effects and unique scenarios. Black Adam ticks all these boxes and passes the expectation with flying colours. The action set pieces in this film are big, bold, loud but overall, are thoroughly entertaining. These sequences are sprinkled throughout the film, putting our title character in unique scenarios that we haven’t seen in a film like this before. Because of the physicality that The Rock brings to the role, the action sequences are immediately heightened. Whilst there are CGI enhancements, The Rock predominantly does a lot of his own stunt work. This level of dedication adds to the authenticity and realism of these sequences, grounding them more than if a stunt performers was completing these action sequences in The Rock’s place. If you’re hungry for top notch action, amazing visuals and seeing The Rock do his thing, then you need to give ‘Black Adam’ a go. Watch it on 4K UHD if you can as well, you won’t want to miss it in this format!

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No it’s Black Adam in an amazing costume - The Costume design - 

One of the biggest things to nail down in any big-budget superhero flick, are the costumes. It’s integral to the iconography of the character that the costume be top notch and provide a great representation of the character from comic book to screen. Costume designer(s) Kurt and Bart do a fantastic job at choosing the best possible costume for Dwayne Johnson. The Black Adam costume looks like it was made for him, fitting him perfectly but also remaining faithful to the source material, created by Bill Parker and C.C Beck, that it’s based on. The other character costume designs as well are perfect, Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate, Hawkman and Cyclone all looking amazing.

Black Adam is truly a fun comic book movie. With so many coming out every year, it’s hard to distinguish between the vast majority of these films, and Black Adam does a superb job of this. It’s full of action, it’s fun and The Rock kills it as this character, which it feels like he was born to play. A must watch for comic book fans and film fans in general.
